Likit Graze Maze & Graze Paste Review

Likit Graze Maze & Graze Paste Review

A practical, real-world look at how this slow-release enrichment mat performs with everyday use.

The Likit Graze Maze and Graze Paste offer a calmer, slower-paced enrichment option for horses who enjoy licking and problem-solving. After spending time testing both with my pony, I’ve gathered some honest, practical thoughts on how they perform in real-world use.

First Impressions

I’ll admit it took a number of attempts to entice my pony to try the Graze Maze. She’s not usually very food-motivated, and the combination of the textured mat and the thicker paste meant she wasn’t immediately sure what to do with it. I think as a rescued pony she hasn't had a lot of exposure to many flavours so she was suspicious to start with.

After a few short sessions, and a bit of encouragement, she did warm to it. Once she understood the idea, she settled into a steady rhythm of licking and nudging the mat, which is exactly what this enrichment tool is designed for. I think if you have a horse who already likes licks and molasses based treats this is a perfect progression or alternative that can keep them interested for a long time.

Using the Graze Maze in the Stable or Yard

The mat itself is sturdy and well-designed, but there’s one practical point worth noting: if you use it directly on a rubber mat, it might pick up stray bits of hay, coat/hair that's been shed, dust, and bedding in the area.

To avoid this, I found that placing it inside a feed bucket works better. It keeps the mat cleaner, stops it sliding around, and makes the whole experience tidier for both horse and human.

Cleaning the Graze Maze

Cleaning is straightforward, but there’s a small quirk worth mentioning. If you rinse it with a hose, the grooves and ridges tend to cause a surprising amount of splashback. A gentler spray, or even a bucket of warm water, keeps you far drier.

The Graze Paste

The Graze Paste is thick, sticky, and clearly designed to stay put, which is ideal for extending licking time. Once my pony understood the concept, she was perfectly happy to work at it. It’s not as instantly engaging as a Likit bar or treat ball, but that’s part of its appeal: it’s calmer, slower, and more focused. One point to note is that it doesn't come with anything to put the paste on the mat. I had eagerly taken both items to the yard and only realised this too late. A spatula from the kitchen is a great way to put the paste on the mat and this isn't included with the product. I do think Likit could offer this as a product in the future though. It makes sense to sell them together.

Customer Service

One standout positive was Likit’s responsive and friendly customer service. I reached out on social media with a couple of questions, and they replied quickly with genuinely helpful suggestions. It’s always reassuring when a brand supports its products so well.

Final Thoughts

The Likit Graze Maze and Graze Paste make a thoughtful, low-sugar enrichment option for horses who enjoy licking-based activities. It may take a few tries for some horses to get the hang of it, and cleaning requires a bit of technique, but once you find your rhythm, it’s a handy addition to your stable routine.

Best for: Horses who enjoy licking enrichment, owners wanting a calmer boredom breaker, low-sugar treat options.
Less ideal for: Use directly on rubber mats, quick grab-and-go enrichment sessions.
