Likit Granola Stall Ball

Likit Granola Stall Ball Review

A practical, real-world look at how this boredom breaker performs in typical use.

Keeping horses and ponies mentally stimulated in the stable can be a challenge, especially during summer when you bring them in to avoid the heat, flies and sunburn, or long winter nights or box‑rest periods. The Likit Granola Stall Ball is designed as a slow‑use boredom breaker that encourages natural licking behaviour while offering a bit of fun and movement. I’ve been using it with my three year old mare to see how well it performs as an enrichment toy — here’s how it got on.

First Impressions

Straight out of the packaging, the Granola Stall Ball feels sturdy and well‑made, with a good weight that helps it swing naturally when the horse interacts with it. The granola‑style filling offers a different texture than a standard Likit refill, which immediately suggests it will last longer and offer more of a challenge. The scent is sweet but not overpowering, and the overall design feels safe and horse‑friendly. it comes in different flavours, too.

Hanging it up is simple, the rope is strong, the attachment point is secure, and the ball can be placed at a good height for any sized horse or pony, depending on how you put it up. It’s the kind of toy you can set up in a couple of minutes without fuss.

How Horses Interact With It

The Granola Stall Ball encourages licking, nudging, and gentle play. Horses who enjoy food‑based toys tend to take to it quickly, especially those who like the original Likit range. The firmer texture means they can’t just bite chunks off, which slows them down and keeps them engaged for longer.

My mare had options to interact with a standard likit, a likit boredom breaker, a stall ball, a jolly ball, a decahedron AND a salt likit, all at the same time. She had each of these options added one at a time as a slow introduction but of the hanging ones, it was only the granola one that took her attention really.  She seemed to enjoy the combination of flavour, movement, and the small challenge of keeping the ball still enough to lick properly. It’s not a high‑energy toy, but it does offer steady, calming enrichment. I left most of toys in her stable and time and time again it was the granola one she gravitated towards, immediately. So much so that I got her one of the refills for a regular likit in the granola format and she LOVES this too.

Durability & Lasting Power

One of the biggest questions with any stable toy is: how long does it last?

The Granola Stall Ball performs well here. The firmer filling means it doesn’t disappear in a single session, and the swinging motion naturally slows consumption. In my experience, it's lasting well. She makes a bee-line for it as soon as she's in the stable and even when pinning it against the wall she's not managing to destroy it. I've seen some horses really, really dig their teeth into the regular likits and bite off chunks of them; that's not really possible with the granola one because of its structure.  I would say, the only negative I've found is that it is sticky to touch. If you can put it up and leave it alone that would be ideal. If, like my mare, they nudge it and get it over their muzzles, they become sticky themselves and you may end up with sticky kisses!

How It Fits Into a Boredom‑Breaker Routine

The Likit Granola Stall Ball works best as part of a varied enrichment setup. It’s ideal for:

  • stabled horses needing gentle mental stimulation
  • box‑rest horses who can’t have high‑energy toys
  • food‑motivated horses who enjoy licking and slow‑use treats
  • yards looking for a low‑mess, low‑effort boredom breaker

It’s not designed to replace movement‑based toys like treat balls, but it complements them well by offering a calmer, slower activity.

Final Thoughts

The Likit Granola Stall Ball is a solid, reliable boredom breaker that offers slow, steady enrichment without creating mess or requiring constant supervision. It lasts longer than standard Likit refills, encourages natural licking behaviour, and provides a gentle challenge that keeps horses occupied in a calm, focused way.

If you’re looking for a stable toy that’s easy to set up, low‑maintenance, and ideal for everyday use, the Granola Stall Ball is a practical option that fits neatly into most enrichment routines.

The outer shell is tough and held up well to nudging and knocking. Even enthusiastic horses didn’t manage to damage it.
